Bereavement Support Group

A new Bethany Support Group meets every Tuesday at 11.00am -12.00pm in the Edith Stein Room.
This group will break for the summer and will re-sume meetings on Tuesday 14th September 2010
The name Bethany recalls the visit of Jesus to Mary and Martha on the death of their brother Lazarus.
In to-day's world, people tend to be unaware of the grief associated with bereavement. It is not widely understood that the grieving process may be long and severe. Understanding the stages of grief can be helpful and reassuring.
Although grieving is a natural process which can be helped by the sympathy and understanding of friends, sometimes one may need support to work through it in a positive way. Friends don't always know how to help; they may feel embarrassed by one's grief; they may even avoid meeting one in a mistaken belief that a meeting may increase distress.
It is quite normal to feel anger, guilt, fear and depression as well as the awful pain of loss. These feelings need to be expressed rather than repressed, to be talked out, cried over and put in some sort of perspective.
It helps the healing process to talk with a trained listener and confront the very strong feelings associated with grief. Many Bethany members have themselves been bereaved. They are trained to listen with understanding. They accept those suffering loss as they are, and support them through the grieving process.

Come & Pray !
Pope John Paul II invited the Church to pray more, saying:
‘Prayer develops that conversation with Christ which makes us his intimate friends: “Abide in me and I in you”… Wrought in us by the Holy Spirit, this …opens us, through Christ and in Christ, to contemplation of the Father’s face. Learning this Trinitarian shape of Christian prayer and living it fully, above all in the liturgy, the summit and source of the Church’s life, but also in personal experience, is the secret of a truly vital Christianity…’
If you would like to develop a more vital prayer life, you are invited to join in some of the prayer that surrounds the 11.30 Mass every Sunday in the St John of the Cross Oratory, which is at the back of the Church, under the organ loft, or off the courtyard beside Café Bell.
10.00 Praise and worship (St John of the Cross Oratory) 11.00 Mass (Main Church) 12.00 Eucharistic Adoration (until 1.00) (St John of the Cross Oratory)
